After DFDS' takeover of Fred. Olsen’s North Sea Line,
the Europe Terminal in Brevik was quickly selected as a
suitable hub for a large part of the freight traffic served
by DFDS Tor Line’s ro/ro fleet.
To begin with, the terminal has an operational area of
32,000 square meters. A larger area is being made
ready.
To be able to carry out all the required terminal
functions an own terminal company will be established by
DFDS Tor Line AS together with the Grenland Port Authority,
Norsk Hydro, and Norcem AS.
DFDS Tor Line offers eight weekly calls at the new
terminal, which has a direct connection to the following
European ports: Rotterdam, Immingham, Felixstowe, and
Hamburg.
A rapid development is expected in traffic via the
terminal. Therefore, the Grenland Port Authority has begun
construction of a new ro/ro-ramp and a new quay to handle
the expected growth in ro/ro-traffic.
To be able to handle both the existing transport and
future increase in transport a close cooperation has begun
with the Railway Service and the Norwegian State Railway to
discover environment-friendly transport solutions. Both in
connection with the expansion work, future operation of the
terminal, and development of transport solutions, the
avoidance of negative environmental influences will have
high priority. The goal here is to establish a transport
system that provides environmental improvements in Grenland
and subsequently in the entire Oslo Fjord area, with no
negative influence on the local environment in Brevik.
