DFDS Dan Transport has acquired an additional 20.4% of
the shares in Dansk Pakke Distribution A/S (DPD) and
thereby owns 33.4% of the company. The remaining shares are
owned by Transit Transport Flensburg GmbH & Co.
KG.
DPD A/S has a turnover of approximately DKK 120 million
and distributes parcels both in Denmark and throughout
Europe. The company has two main terminals - one in Høje
Taastrup and one in Kolding - and four small terminals in
Ålborg, Århus, Herning, and Odense respectively. The
company has 52 employees.
For several years DFDS Dan Transport has had a franchise
agreement with DPD GmbH regarding Denmark, Sweden, Norway,
and Finland – and most recently the Baltic states have been
included. DPD distributes a total of 5.1 million parcels
annually in the Nordic region, where the company is the
fourth largest privately-owned parcel distributor. The DPD
companies in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Baltic States
are 100%-owned by DFDS Dan Transport.
DPD is the second largest parcel distributor in Europe,
with a turnover of DKK 8 billion and 21,500 employees. The
group distributes approximately 245 million parcels
annually and has 13,000 vehicles.
The parcel segment is of great importance to DFDS Dan
Transport, as this market is under-going strong growth.
Throughout Europe the demand for distribution of parcels as
part of total logistics systems is on the rise. DPD is a
simple and reliable parcel system for parcels with a
maximum weight of 31.5 kg. The system offers ”Track &
Trace” and full EDI integration directly with the customer
or via the Internet. Bestseller, Ecco, and Hummel are three
large Danish customers of DPD.
Yours sincerely,
