The DFDS Tor Line Group A/S and P and O Ferrymasters
Ltd. have signed a letter of intent whereby, before the end
of this year, DFDS Tor Line will acquire the P and O
Ferrymaster freight vessel m/v ELK and a number of trailers
that are used primarily in the P and O Ferrymaster
door/door traffic on the m/v ELK service between Sweden and
England.
The m/v ELK was built in 1978 and has a capacity of
2,040 lane meters and a service speed of 18 knots. The
vessel sails between Middlesbrough and Gothenburg twice
weekly and Middlesbrough and Helsingborg once weekly.
From 1 January 2001 DFDS Tor Line will lease both the
m/v ELK and the trailers back to P and O Ferrymasters. P
and O Ferrynmasters will thus continue to operate both
service and door/door traffic based on the above-mentioned
route. DFDS Tor Line will be able to use the service.
The objective of this agreement is to strengthen the
cooperation between DFDS Tor Line and P and O Ferrymasters.
Negotiations on the specifics of this cooperation will
begin early in 2001.
Negotiations concerning the final purchase contract for
the vessel and trailers are expected to be concluded before
the end of the year. DFDS A/S’ result for the year 2000
will not be affected by this transaction.
The final agreement is subject to the approval of the
boards of both parties.
Yours sincerely,
DFDS A/S
