In January 2001 DFDS Seaways bought the biggest
passenger ship yet for their fleet. With a capacity of 720
cabins she will exceed all previous ships in the fleet and
furthermore become the biggest hotel in Denmark. The vessel has been sailing with Asian cruise guests who
make very high demands to the standard on board. In the
ambitious rebuilding programme DFDS Seaways will keep the
best of the Asian luxury but will also add a wide range of
improvements. The oriental luxury will thus be combined
with Scandinavian passengers’ demands. m.s. PEARL OF SCANDINAVIA will be the ship’s new name,
and the total investment including the rebuilding programme
with focus on passenger comfort will amount to about MDKK
800-850. A completely new ship of the same class and size
would have a delivery time of about 2½ years.
