The vessel, m.s. TOR MAXIMA, has been sold to Norwegian
owners for delivery in November. The parties have agreed
not to disclose the sales price.
TOR MAXIMA, built in Japan in 1978, has a cargo capacity
of 2,700 lane metres. The ship was built to the largest
possible specifications to go through the lock of Grimsby,
UK. When DFDS Tor Line's ro-ro traffic was concentreted on
the port of Immingham, TOR MAXIMA was shifted to Immingham
and is still in service between Esbjerg and Immingham. DFDS
Tor Line has chartered the ship from its new owners on a
three-year basis, thus the ship will continue to be
deployed on DFDS Tor Line's services.
The sales of TOR HAFNIA, TOR CALEDONIA and now TOR
MAXIMA are part of DFDS' tonnage strategy, viz. to reduce
the average age of the fleet and improve the flexibility.
Moreover, the sale of TOR MAXIMA should be seen in
connection with the placing of an order for three large
ro-ro newbuildings with Flensburg Shipyard, of which the
first ship is to be delivered about September 2003.
The sale of TOR MAXIMA will have a positive impact of
approximately DKK 25 mio. on DFDS' ordinary result before
tax for 2001.
Yours faithfully,
DFDS A/S
