PEARL OF SCANDINAVIA will be entered into service on the
Copenhagen-Helsingborg-Oslo route. Her maiden voyage is
scheduled for today, with departure from Copenhagen at
17.00. The ship replaces QUEEN OF SCANDINAVIA, which will
be entered into service on the Amsterdam-Newcastle
route.
PEARL OF SCANDINAVIA has capacity for 2,100 passengers
in 720 cabins, space for 365 cars, and conference
facilities for 500 people. The ship, built in 1989, has
undergone extensive rebuilding and renovation since she was
acquired in January 2001 and is now completely refurbished.
The total investment amounts to approximately DKK 1
billion, about DKK 0.2 billion more than originally
planned. The additional cost stems from the decision to
expand the ship’s cabin capacity to better accommodate
market demands, as well as further renovate and upgrade the
passenger areas for greater efficiency and productivity.
The extra investment is not expected to affect the
company’s results for 2001.
The investment in the ship is part of DFDS Seaways'
strategy to bring down the average fleet age, increase
capacity and develop product and service concepts.
Sincerely,
DFDS A/S
