Report for the First Half Year 2001, 1 January - 30 June 2001 (SEA)

  • DFDS carried out several important strategic initiatives in the first half year as first stage of the company growth strategy:76.4% of the shares in the Lithuanian shipping company AB LISCO Baltic Service were acquired in June. Capacity expansion carried out as planned in June with the entering into service of the passenger ship PEARL OF SCANDINAVIA on the Copenhagen/Helsingborg- Oslo-route and the transfer of the QUEEN OF SCANDINAVIA to the Amsterdam-Newcastle route. Both initiatives have been very well received by the market. Three large ro-ro ships contracted for in May of which the first ship is to be delivered in September 2003 with a right of option for five more ships
  • The turnover of DKK 1.911 mio. in the first half year is on level with first half year of 2000 despite a negative exchange rate effect related to the Swedish krone
  • The result before tax and extraordinary items was DKK 82 mio., which is below expectations, as the profit from sale of DFDS' domicile on Sankt Annæ Plads is contained in the result
  • The effect on the result of the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Great Britain – in particular in the second quarter – is estimated to be a loss of approximately DKK 50 million for the full year 2001, for which positive deviations in operation provide only partial compensation
  • Profit from sale of DFDS’ domicile on Sankt Annæ Plads was DKK 120 million before tax
  • The expectation to the result for the full year 2001 has been adjusted by DKK 25 million from approximately DKK 175 million to approximately DKK 150 million, consequent to the development in the first half year. Including profit from the sale of DFDS' domicile an annual result before tax of approximately DKK 270 mio. is expected.
