DFDS Tor Line has sold the ro-ro ship TOR CIMBRIA to
Norwegian interests with delivery scheduled for the end of
October this year. The parties have agreed not to disclose
the purchase price.
DFDS Tor Line has chartered the ship from the purchaser,
and the ship will thus continue to be in service on DFDS
Tor Line’s route network.
TOR CIMBRIA was built in 1986 at the Frederikshavn
shipyard and has a capacity of approximately 2,000 lane
metres. Originally built for the DFDS Esbjerg-Grimsby
route, the vessel was designed to the maximum dimensions
possible for passing through the Grimsby lock. More
recently, the ship has operated DFDS’ routes from Immingham
to Cuxhaven, Brevik and Rotterdam.
The sale of TOR CIMBRIA follows the sale in 2001 of
three other ro-ro vessels, TOR HAFNIA, TOR CALEDONIA and
TOR MAXIMA, and is thus another step in the company’s
established tonnage renewal strategy, which aims to reduce
the average age of the fleet and increase ownership
flexibility.
DFDS Tor Line has ordered a total of five newbuildings
from the Flensborg shipyard, with the first due to be
delivered in September 2003.
Yours faithfully
