The agreement includes sea transportation of
semi-manufactured products between the stainless steel
production plants of AvestaPolarit in Avesta and Degerfors,
Sweden and Sheffield, the United Kingdom. It is a two-way
transport of the semi-manufactured products on special
designed 40 feet flats in an intermodal logistics system,
by the parties called "SteelBridge", which also includes
train transports in Sweden as well as in the United
Kingdom.
The new agreement in force from January 1st 2004 until
the end of 2008 counts transport of more than 650.000 tons
p.a. Other co-operation partners are Älvsborgshamnen in the
Port of Göteborg, DFDS Nordic Terminal in Immingham as are
the railway companies GreenCargo and EWS in Sweden
respectively the United Kingdom.
"With this agreement, where quality and delivery
reliability have been two determinative factors,
AvestaPolarit secures the flow of goods between the
production plants for five years ahead", says Sjaak Klap at
AvestaPolarit.
"For DFDS’ two companies, DFDS Tor Line and DFDS Nordic
Terminal, the long-term planning of securing volumes for
AngloBridge is an important part of the agreement as is the
fact that we by this to the market show our firm ambition
with intermodal transports in addition to trailer volumes",
says Peter Kleberg at DFDS Tor Line.
The maritime transports will be carried out onboard
three, of the total of five, new ro-ro vessels ordered by
DFDS A/S at Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft in Germany.
The new vessels, one of which “the Tor Magnolia” is already
in service between Göteborg and Immingham, can each carry
3,900 lane metres giving a capacity increase of 40 % for
DFDS Tor Line on ”AngloBridge”.
