Volvo Logistics and DFDS Tor Line have signed a new
agreement extending their long-term partnership until the
end of 2005. DFDS will ship cars, trucks, busses and
components to the Continent and Great Britain.
The new agreement is expected to increase the volumes of
finished products and components shipped. Transport to the
Continent will be via EuroBridge between Gothenburg and
Ghent in Belgium and via AngloBridge between Gothenburg and
Immingham in Great Britain. Either service has seven weekly
departures, which was a decisive factor for Volvo. This
high frequency combined with short sea shipping, which is
less harmful to environment, and the new road taxes to be
introduced in Germany soon are expected to increase
volumes, particularly on EuroBridge.
“DFDS’ long-term strategy, precision and investment
capacity are important to Volvo’s supply of components to
factories and finished products to markets,” Kjell-Åke
Hvittfeldt, Vice President of Volvo Logistics said.
“The Volvo Logistics agreement for EuroBridge represents
confirmation that short sea shipping is important to
industry and that our investments in frequency, precision
and continuity constitute an attractive logistics
solution,” Björn Petrusson, Managing Director of DFDS Tor
Line AB commented.
