As part of the contract, it has been decided to lengthen
the three newest combined sideport/container vessels the
LYSVIK, the LYSBLINK and the LYSBRIS by 27,10 m,
corresponding to a 50% capacity increase. The vessels were
built in India during 1998-2000, and the rebuilding will
take place on the ship repair yard Nauta in Gdynia, Poland,
from December 2003 to April 2004.
After the lengthening, the vessels will be 129 m long,
and will have a DW of approx. 7,500 tonnes. The container
capacity of each vessel will be increased to 160 TEUs.
Furthermore, as part of the agreement with Norske Skog,
a 10,000 m2 warehouse/distribution centre will be built on
DFDS Tor Line’s new Maasvlakte terminal. An annual handling
of more than 150,000 tonnes of paper is expected, and the
warehouse should be ready for operations on 1 May 2004.
The extension of the three Indian-built vessels entails
an investment of approx. NOK 80 mill, while the new
distribution centre requires an investment of approx.
€ 4 mill.
Both investments will increase efficiency and reduce
costs, thereby ensuring better logistic solutions for
Norske Skog in the North European- and overseas
markets.
