DFDS Tor Line has sold the ro-ro freight ship the TOR
MINERVA to Norwegian interests, with delivery scheduled for
the end of April 2003. The parties have agreed not to
disclose the purchase price.
DFDS Tor Line has chartered the ship from the purchaser
for a period of three years and nine months, and the ship
will thus continue to be in service on DFDS Tor Line’s
route network.
TOR MINERVA was built in 1978 and has a freight capacity
of approximately 2,000 lane metres. The ship has primarily
operated the DFDS’ North Sea routes from Esbjerg-Harwich
and Esbjerg- Immingham, but is currently in service on the
route between Rotterdam and Immingham with its sister ship
the TOR HUMBRIA. The TOR MINERVA was purchased by the
Norwegian shipping company Fred. Olsen in 1998.
The tonnage renewal strategy announced by DFDS in
January 2001 included the goal of reducing the average
fleet age and increasing ownership flexibility. The TOR
MINERVA is the eighth ro-ro vessel to be sold since the
start of 2001.
DFDS Tor Line has ordered a total of five
newbuildings from Flensburg Shipyard. The first, the TOR
MAGNOLIA, will be launched and named on 23 May, with
delivery planned for 26 September this year.
