On 26 September, the second of DFDS' new ships from
Flensborg Shipyard was given the name TOR PETUNIA. The ship
was named by Vibeke Larsen, the wife of Kurt Larsen,
Managing Director of DFDS Transport Group A/S, and was then
launched.
According to the schedule, the TOR PETUNIA will be ready
for delivery on 5 January 2004, and will be immediately
placed in service on the DFDS Tor Line freight route,
AngloBridge, between Gothenburg and Immingham. A total of
three new vessels will be placed in service on this route,
and will be among the largest ro-ro ships in the North Sea
area.
After the naming and launch of the TOR PETUNIA, DFDS
takes delivery of the first ship in the new vessel series,
the TOR MAGNOLIA, which according to the plan will make its
first sailing from Gothenburg to Immingham on 6 October
2003.
The TOR MAGNOLIA, the TOR PETUNIA and the third new
ship, which will be delivered on 16 April 2004, will sail
under the Danish flag, while the fourth and fifth vessels,
which will be delivered on 31 August 2004 and 2 January
2005 respectively, will sail under the Swedish
flag.
