BMW Group and DFDS agree Letter of Intent for Transport of Cars

BMW Group and DFDS have agreed terms whereby DFDS from beginning 2004 will transport an annual volume of approx. 80,000 cars from Cuxhaven in Germany to Immingham in the UK, based on a high frequency ro-ro shipping concept.

The co-operation agreement will be valid for 7½ years and includes a just-in-time shipping flow. DFDS and its partner CUXPORT as port operator provide the option in Cuxhaven to marshal for up to 9000 cars during the run up to the UK registration peaks.

The service will start with shipments to Immingham, but it is expected, that the volume will split to Immingham and Harwich later in 2004.

“The BMW Group has an exciting and innovative approach to modern auto logistics and it is stimulating for us at DFDS to be part of the development of Cuxhaven as a North German shipping logistics ‘hub’”, are the comments from Ole Frie, Managing Director of DFDS A/S.
