Today the shipping company DFDS Lys-Line Rederi AS, of
which DFDS A/S owns 66%, has sold four freight vessels. The
buyer is the Norwegian company Ross Liner KS. It has been
agreed between the parties that the purchase sum will
remain confidential.
The ships, the LYSHAV (built 1985), the LYSFOSS (built
1989), the LYSSKOG (built 1990) and the LYSTIND (built
1990) are all side door vessels with container deck; the
latter three have been extended in 1999/2000. The ships are
primarily utilised for transporting paper, and are ideal
for small harbours and harbours with varying quay
heights.
All four ships have been time-chartered to Lys-Line AS –
the LYSHAV for two years and the others for seven years –
and will operate between Norway/Sweden and
Ireland/Spain.
The sell-off is occurring as part of the DFDS group's
fleet strategy. A total of 16 freight vessels have been
sold since January 2001, partly through outright sales and
partly by way of charter-back for various periods.
A total of five new Ro-Ro freight vessels have been
ordered from Flensborg Shipyard, of which one was delivered
in 2003 and another on 5 January this year, with a further
two due for delivery in April and August of this year,
respectively. The fifth and final ship will be delivered in
January 2005.
Taking account of the new ships to be supplied in 2004,
the average age of DFDS' freight fleet will hereby be
reduced to 10 years.
