DFDS consolidates its position in the Baltic with another route between Latvia and Germany

As a consequence of the rise in goods traffic in recent months on DFDS Tor Line's 'HansaBridge' route between Riga and Lübeck, DFDS Tor Line will open another route between Latvia and Germany, this time between Ventspils and Lübeck, by 1 September 2004.

DFDS Tor Line already operates a high-frequency transport corridor between Kiel and Klaipeda in Lithuania, with six weekly sailings, as well as a corridor between Karlshamn in Sweden and Klaipeda, which also has six weekly sailings. These two routes employ a total of four Ro-Pax ships.

The Ro-Pax vessel m.s.PALANGA will provide two weekly sailings on the new route, and together with the Ro-Pax ships the KAUNAS and the VILNIUS, the HansaBridge corridor will thus offer six weekly sailings in each direction, with a total weekly freight capacity of 15,250 lane metres and accommodation for 2,000 passengers.

The expansion is an element in DFDS's plan to strengthen its activities in the Baltic region and to be able to offer short sea shipping services on a Ro-Pax and Ro-Ro basis in parallel with the anticipated increase in demand.
