As announced at DFDS' annual general meeting 14 April
2004, the company has ordered newbuilding number six in the
so-called flower series from Flensburg Shipyard. DFDS
also negotiates an option for newbuilding number seven.
Recently DFDS has secured a number of substantial
industrial contracts and - supported by the German road tax
expected to be implemented as from January 2005 - expects
the historical annual increase of 4-6% in short sea
shipping volumes to continue. Consequently, it has
been deemed necessary already now to secure further vessel
capacity from 2006 and onwards.
Newbuilding number six is to be delivered in the
middle of 2006 and is planned to sail under Danish flag.
The capacity is equal to that of her sister vessels', i.e.
approximately 3,900 lane metres, and the service speed is
23 knots.
The vessel will be given a flower name, and will
be put into service between Gothenburg and Immingham,
replacing a sister vessel to be transferred to
BritanniaBridge between Esbjerg and Immingham.
