DFDS orders newbuilding number six from Flensburg Shipyard

As announced at DFDS' annual general meeting 14 April 2004, the company has ordered newbuilding number six in the so-called flower series from Flensburg Shipyard.  DFDS also negotiates an option for newbuilding number seven.

Recently DFDS has secured a number of substantial industrial contracts and - supported by the German road tax expected to be implemented as from January 2005 - expects the historical annual increase of 4-6% in short sea shipping volumes to continue.  Consequently, it has been deemed necessary already now to secure further vessel capacity from 2006 and onwards.

Newbuilding number six is to be delivered in the middle of 2006 and is planned to sail under Danish flag. The capacity is equal to that of her sister vessels', i.e. approximately 3,900 lane metres, and the service speed is 23 knots.

The vessel will be given a flower name, and will be put into service between Gothenburg and Immingham, replacing a sister vessel to be transferred to BritanniaBridge between Esbjerg and Immingham.
