DFDS A/S has acquired 66 percent of the trailer forwarding company Halléns N.V., Ghent in Belgium. The deal becomes effective subsequent to certain competition authorities’ approval. The parties have agreed not to disclose the price.
Halléns N.V. with headoffice in Ghent operates 800 trailers and some 95 own trucks and has a yearly turnover of approximately EUR 47 million. The company is a major customer of the DFDS Tor Line ro/ro EuroBridge service between Ghent in Belgium and Gothenburg in Sweden and Brevik in Norway. The EuroBridge service has six weekly departures in either direction on Gothenburg and two on Brevik.
Halléns N.V. operates primarily an unaccompanied trailer system and serves an axis from Northern Spain over France and Benelux to Sweden, Norway and Finland. A considerable proportion of the cargo carried is associated with the automotive industry. Volvo Logistics is a major customer of Halléns N.V. and likewise a major customer on the DFDS Tor Line EuroBridge service.
The automotive industry is increasingly focusing on supply of logistic solutions encompassing more than one product. Through the acquisition of 66 per cent of Halléns N.V. DFDS is both supporting volume utilisation of EuroBridge and offering a number of value added services to the automotive industry.
The management of Halléns N.V. continues unchanged. The company has a subsidiary in France and one in Finland.
