New, tougher control rules on board DFDS ships

In continuation of a meeting with representatives of the Danish Association of Maritime Catering Establishments (DSRF), Danish Navigators and the Danish Catering Workers' Union (RBF), the management of DFDS has decided the following:

  • On board each of the Company's vessels, an officer will make inspection rounds of the crew's quarters several times every evening/night at random intervals, in order to ensure that the Company's alcohol policy is observed
  • Records will be kept of these inspection rounds with a specification of time, route and areas, as well as any observations
  • Immediate action will be taken if any evidence is observed of infringements of the alcohol policy, or even the suspicion that such a situation is under development
  • The consequences of any infringement of the Company's alcohol policy are indisputable
  • Random breathalyser tests will be made regularly at the start of each shift and at intervals during the working period

Søren Jespersen, COO, stated, "We have seen indications that our strict alcohol policy has been infringed. Safety at sea will always have top priority at DFDS. I am well aware that the new, tough restrictions and controls will be an inconvenience for the overwhelming majority of our personnel who always abide by all the rules, but I am convinced that they will understand the necessity for this. As soon as possible, I will meet with the crews of our ships in person in order to explain to them the reasons for the management's decisions."
