DFDS sells Ro-Pax ship (SEA)

As of today’s date, the DFDS-owned company Lisco Baltic Service has sold the Ro-Pax vessel PALANGA to the New Zealand shipping company Monto Stello Limited. The sale will bring DFDS a profit around DKK 16 million, which will be entered into the accounts for 2006. The parties have agreed to keep the sales price confidential.

Over the past year, the PALANGA has sailed between the Canary Islands under a charter agreement with the Spanish shipping company Transmediterranea. This contract will expire at the time of delivery to the New Zealand purchaser.

Fleet significantly renewed in five years

In 2001, DFDS laid down a strategy to reduce the average age of its freight vessels from approximately fourteen years to approximately ten years. This goal was reached by the end of 2004, as the average age had then been reduced to 9.1 years, and this level was maintained during 2005. The sale of the PALANGA, built in 1979, and the delivery in the middle of 2006 of the last of a total of six newly-built freight vessels will further reduce the average age. Since 2001, DFDS has sold off 20 elderly freight vessels, of which some have been chartered back.
