DFDS long-term charters two large Ro-Ro ships

Fjord Norway

In July 2005 DFDS Tor Line announced that it had chartered two Ro-Ro ships from Macoma Shipping Ltd. for a period of ten years with an option for a further three years. The ships are being built at the Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, China, for delivery at the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008, respectively.

DFDS has now extended this agreement by two more sister ships for delivery in March and November 2009, respectively. These two ships have also been time-chartered for a period of ten years with an option for a further three years.

The ships have a capacity of 3,343 lane metres each and are suitable for transporting trailers and heavy paper cargoes. The first two ships will be placed in service on the DFDS Tor Line BritanniaBridge route between Esbjerg in Denmark and Immingham in the UK. The other two ships will be deployed within the DFDS Tor Line route network in replacement of other chartered ships. All four ships will sail under the British flag.

The four ships will contribute to maintaining DFDS’ strategy of retaining a maximum ownership share of 50% of the total Ro-Ro tonnage.
