Daily departures on the Karlshamn-Klaipeda route

“In order to meet the requirements of our customers, we have decided to increase the number of departures on the combined cargo and passenger route from Karlshamn in Sweden to Klaipeda in Lithuania from six to seven weekly departures. The new schedule will be effective from 1 December 2007”, says Anders Refsgaard, Deputy Director, DFDS A/S.

There will thus be a daily evening departure from both Karlshamn and Klaipeda, and the route will also in the future be serviced by the two well-known and well-performing vessels m.s. LISCO PATRIA and m.s. KAUNAS.

“We had the opportunity to increase the frequency on the route now, since the one weekly call to the Port of Baltijsk has been replaced by our new combined route for rail and road cargo from Sassnitz/Mukran to Baltijsk”, says Anders Refsgaard.

“And I believe that the increased frequency and capacity on Karlshamn-Klaipeda is the right answer to market demands and to our customers’ transport requirements”, he adds.

The capacity to the Baltic States to be further increased from February 2008 when the newbuilding, TOR CORONA, enters DFDS’ route network from Denmark to Klaipeda.

DFDS further plans to increase the capacity in the service between Fredericia/Copenhagen and Klaipeda from late February 2008, when the newbuilding TOR CORONA replaces TOR MAXIMA. TOR CORONA is the first of four new vessels built in China, and with a capacity of 3,178 lane metres, the total capacity increase will be 33%.

“We look very much forward to being able to offer our customers a higher capacity. Also we plan to invite our customers and business partners to an Open Ship-arrangement on TOR CORONA in early spring”, says Anders Refsgaard.
