The joy of giving is great. That much was clear yesterday to the crew of Pearl Seaways when they welcomed 250 homeless people in Copenhagen to the annual Christmas buffet, held in cooperation with WeShelter. It is a day that employees and homeless look forward to each year – and this was the eighth year that people were collected from hostels for the party by bus company Københavns Bustrafik and taken to the DFDS terminal. They were greeted by the crew and volunteers from DFDS House before they settled down to the Christmas buffet and cheery music from the ship's entertainer.

"It's always a great pleasure to spoil the homeless and we know many of them from previous years. I'm so proud that year after year we can lay on such a great event. I'd like to say a big thanks to the many sponsors who have made it possible to lay the event on, to my eager colleagues in the kitchen who have provided all the good Christmas food and beautiful handmade honey biscuits for all the participants, and to the many lovely knitters throughout Denmark. They have been really busy knitting hats, scarves, socks, blankets and so on. We really appreciate it," says Dorte Slyngborg, Chef de Cuisine on Pearl. She is one of the main drivers behind the Christmas buffet for the homeless.
