Keeping up traditions in the UK

Afternoon Tea – a very British experience!

A centuries-old tradition in England, afternoon tea was invented in 1840 by the Duchess of Bedford. Custom dictates that mid-afternoon you are to sit down and enjoy a pot of tea, Accompanying the tea is a several-tiered cake stand decorated with delicious finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, as well as an assiette of sweet treats.

Classic British tea rooms across the country offer afternoon tea, often with the option to upgrade to prosecco and champagne.

Best places for Afternoon Tea

London’s Dean Street Townhouse serves afternoon tea between 3pm and 6pm and offers a selection of sandwiches with traditionally British cakes and scones. There’s also a range of teas to choose from, such as the Lapsang Souchong and smoke flavoured tea.
