Oktoberfest

The first Oktoberfest took place in 1910 when Prince Louis von Sachsen-Hildburghausen married crown princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen and invited all Munich citizens to take part in the celebration. This took place in October and was so successful that it became a yearly tradition. Oktoberfest is now the most important Bavarian regional festival, attracting more than 6 million visitors each year, with fairs, music, drinks and lots of fun activities.

Northern Germany

Celebrating oktoberfest in the cities of Schenefeld and Ahrensburg is a great way to enjoy the Bavarian celebration without the big crowds and noise of Munich. When visiting the north of Germany, don’t miss the opportunity to see the three most important cities of the Hanseatic League - Bremen, Hamburg and Lübeck. You can also explore the Baltic and North Sea coasts or visit Jasmund National Park on the island of Rügen.

Hamburg

The Oktoberfest atmosphere spreads every year to Hamburg - far away from Munich. Less crowded but still full of that festive atmosphere starting at the beginning of September. In Hamburg you can enjoy numerous traditional Bavarian events and discover why it’s defined as the best city in the wold by the locals.

The famous Fish Market (Fischauktionshalle) in Hamburg is usually filled with a festive Bavarian atmosphere three consecutive weeks from October 4th. Oktoberfest at the Karstadt and at Bergedorf

Located in the heart of Hamburg, on Mönckebergstraße Street, the Karstadt Shopping Centre welcomes all Oktoberfest fans to celebrate every year in a specially equipped tent on their roofentertaining visitors with live music from the 6th of September.

If you’re travelling with children, Bergedorf is a great option for families. Here Oktoberfest is celebrated at the Frascatiplatz in Bergedorf's main square, with a festive fair and lots of entertainment for the entire family.
