The first Oktoberfest took place in 1910 when Prince Louis von Sachsen-Hildburghausen married crown princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen and invited all Munich citizens to take part in the celebration. This took place in October and was so successful that it became a yearly tradition. Oktoberfest is now the most important Bavarian regional festival, attracting more than 6 million visitors each year, with fairs, music, drinks and lots of fun activities.

Oktoberfest at the Karstadt and at Bergedorf

Located in the heart of Hamburg, on Mönckebergstraße Street, the Karstadt Shopping Centre welcomes all Oktoberfest fans to celebrate every year in a specially equipped tent on their roofentertaining visitors with live music from the 6th of September.

If you’re travelling with children, Bergedorf is a great option for families. Here Oktoberfest is celebrated at the Frascatiplatz in Bergedorf's main square, with a festive fair and lots of entertainment for the entire family.
