DFDS Cookie Policy
Last updated: 4/9/2025 DFDS aims to provide a transparent website with relevant content. To achieve this, we use technologies that collect, process, and sort information about how you and other visitors use our site. This policy provides an overview of how we process your data, what you need to be aware of, and your options to oppose the processing.
DFDS’ use of cookies may include the processing of your data, including your personal data. We use cookies and similar technologies (such as pixels) to collect information about your user behaviour, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring website, and engagement with our digital services.
We obtain your consent before using any cookies that are not strictly necessary, in accordance with GDPR Article 6(1)(a).
DFDS also uses third-party tracking technologies for analytics and marketing purposes. These include tools such as Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, VWO, and others. These tools help us measure advertising performance, personalise content, and understand how users engage with our website. The data collected is anonymised or pseudonymised and is only processed after you have provided consent to analytical or marketing cookies.
When you engage with our services—such as clicking a link in an email or logging into your DFDS account—we may combine cookie data with other information we store about you to improve your user experience and tailor our communications.
With your explicit consent, we may also access additional data from your device (e.g., location, contacts, or photos) or receive information from your social media provider if you log in using a social media account. These permissions are managed through your device and social network settings.
For a full list of tracking technologies and their purposes, and to learn more about your rights and how we process your data, including your personal data, please refer to our Privacy Notice. To manage your cookie preferences, click the cookie icon in the bottom left corner of the page.
Cookies are small data files stored on your device by the website or app you visit. They help recognise your device on future visits. Cookies and similar technologies (like pixel tags and scripts) store information about your visits, such as your IP address, device, browser, operating system, and user behaviour.
Cookies can be used by DFDS and third parties. There are two types of cookies:
- Temporary cookies: Linked to the current visit and deleted automatically when you close your browser.
- Permanent cookies: Stored on your device and renewed every time you visit our site.
Strictly necessary cookies: These are essential for core website functions like logging in and processing payments. Without them, the site cannot function properly. These cookies cannot be disabled.
Functional cookies: These remember your preferences—such as language settings or form entries—to enhance your user experience. If disabled, certain features may not function as intended.
Statistical (analytics) cookies: These help us understand how visitors use our site, allowing us to improve performance and usability. We use tools like Google Analytics and VWO to collect data such as page views and click paths. This data is aggregated and pseudonymised so it does not directly identify you.
Rejecting these cookies does not prevent site usage, but may limit our ability to improve your user experience.
Marketing cookies: These track user behaviour to show you relevant ads and measure campaign effectiveness. They help us run targeted marketing and retargeting campaigns. Rejecting these cookies does not affect site usage, but you may see less personalised content.
See section 6 for more information on the cookies we use and their purposes.
By accepting cookies other than those strictly necessary, you consent to the use of cookies as described below. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the cookie icon at the bottom left of the page.
We use a Consent and Preference Management Platform (CMP) called Cassie (by Syrenis) to manage your cookie preferences. When you visit our site, Cassie:
- Shows a cookie banner
- Allows you to accept or reject non-essential cookies
- Stores your choices securely
- Ensures no optional cookies are set before you consent
- Avoids pre-selected checkboxes and misleading design
- Requests consent renewal every 6 months
Consent validity and renewal
Your cookie preferences are stored securely but only retained for a limited time. After this period, we may ask you to review or renew your choices. For details on specific retention periods, please refer to the cookie banner or settings panel, as these may vary depending on your browser and device.
Proof of consent and audit trail
We use a Consent and Preference Management Platform (Cassie by Syrenis) to record your cookie choices. This includes:
- Timestamp of consent
- Preferences selected
- Consent version
These records ensure compliance and support regulatory audits.
Geo-targeting and regional compliance
Our cookie banner adapts to regional privacy laws, including GDPR and the ePrivacy directive.
Cross-device consent synchronisation
If you're logged into your DFDS account, your preferences (not cookies) may be synchronised across devices to ensure a consistent user experience. Please note that cookie settings are still saved per device and browser.
If you do not want DFDS to store or access cookies on your device, you can manage your cookie preferences directly in your browser. There you can choose which cookies to allow, block, or delete. How to do this depends on what kind of browser you are using. If you are using multiple browsers, you will need to adjust the cookie settings in each of them. Please note, however, that deleting or blocking cookies may affect the functionality of our site.
You can adjust your browser or device settings to block cookies, including third-party cookies. Please note that if you choose to do this, some functions of our site may not be available or may not function properly. For instructions on how to change the settings in different browsers, please refer to the following:
