Together we move closer to net zero

Introducing DFDS Decarbonised Solutions to reduce your Scope 3 emissions. Simple and certified.

Decarbonisation is now made easier

With our solutions for low-emission transport, we generate emission reductions in our own transportation network. This means you can reduce your CO2e Scope 3 emissions and receive a certificate for your climate action reporting.

Flexible and simple reductions

You can choose from different options to support your sustainability strategy and emission reduction targets – without changing your current DFDS contracts. It's flexible and designed to fit with your existing flows.

Certified Scope 3 savings

Our Decarbonised Solutions are based on specific emissions reductions created within the DFDS network. Our process is reviewed by an independent external auditor, ensuring that you can safely apply emissions savings to your own Scope 3 reporting.

Emissions reduction certificates

Our emission reductions process is reviewed by an independent external auditor, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our CO2e reduction certificates. Each certificate is unique and refers to carbon savings associated with your specific shipments within our logistics network. The reductions are stored in our CO2e reduction bank and are available for customers who transport goods within our network.

The DFDS reduction system

When you invest in our decarbonised solutions, revenues are reinvested in new low and zero-emission technologies that will help us accelerate the transition to net zero.

  1. Operations are decarbonised through the use of biofuel in our vessels and by introducing electrical trucks for road transport.
  2. Reductions are calculated by comparing the actual fuel used with traditional fossil fuels, using emissions intensity factors from the GLEC Framework, and the process is reviewed by an independent external auditor.
  3. The reductions are stored in our CO2e reduction bank.
  4. You can claim the reductions and report them to your Scope 3 emissions.

Comply with international standards

Emissions reporting standards

Our base CO2e emissions are calculated and reported according to the GLEC Framework – the global methodology for calculating and reporting logistics emissions. Reductions from insetting are then calculated separately, based on default factors.

Audited emission integrity

Our external auditor reviews and ensures that our emission reductions process is in accordance with the documented process, and that we never sell more reductions than we actually create.

Certified low-carbon fuel

We use biofuel certified by ISCC or RSB, global sustainability certification schemes for fuel production from waste feedstocks. Biofuel is a transition fuel that achieves lower GHG emissions than traditional fossil fuels.

Emissions reductions through insetting

At DFDS, we have chosen insetting as our guiding principle for our emissions reduction efforts. This means that all savings are made within our transportation network.

Direct emissions reductions from your specific transport

With direct insetting, emission reductions are made within your own transportation flow. Your goods are transported on the specific route or lane where the reduction is made. All reductions can be reported as reductions as part of your Scope 3 emissions.

DFDS decarbonise indirect reductions illustration.

Indirect savings within our network

In our indirect (mass balance) solution, reductions are made within the DFDS network throughout Europe. Each tonne of CO2e reduced is stored in our CO2e reduction bank and can no longer be claimed once associated with a customer. As part of your emissions reduction efforts, you can decide on your desired level of transport emission reductions, either on land or sea, or both. You will receive a CO2e Reduction Certificate confirming the amount of reduction made on your behalf and can then apply this reduction to your Scope 3 emissions reporting.

Multi-year partnership with Danish Crown

We have entered into a 5-year partnership with Danish Crown to reduce emissions and jointly advance the transition to CO2-neutral transport. As part of the agreement, we have deployed electric trucks and trailers in Danish Crown's logistics network and will continue collaborating to develop innovative solutions and processes.
