All reductions are made within the DFDS network. With either direct or indirect insetting, you will be achieving real CO2e reductions in your transport supply chain.

Report Scope 3 CO2e reductions
We help you decarbonise your supply chain and accelerate progress towards your net zero target. We provide detailed documentation to support reporting of your Scope 3 emissions.
What are the benefits of the certificate?
The certificate is your guarantee that the emissions reductions are real and unique. When reductions are made via vessels or trucks using biofuel or electricity respectively, the process is independently reviewed by our independent auditor, according to ISAE 3410.
The emissions reductions are made within our Scope 1, and can be included in your Scope 3 reporting. This way, our reductions also become yours, and support your transition to net zero.
The emissions reduction, documented with an associated certificate and statement, is stored in our CO2e reduction bank. Each reduction is unique and will be removed from the CO2e bank once it is issued in the form of a certificate.
We use the GLEC framework to calculate and report on all of our transport emissions. This also forms the basis for our reduction calculations.
Biofuel and electric trucks drive our CO2e reductions
Our carbon emission reductions are generated in our own transport network via insetting – for example by using biofuel in our vessels and by switching to eTrucks on road.
How do DFDS Decarbonised Solutions work?
Driving the transition to net zero operations requires significant efforts from all of us. Our solutions are designed to fuel our transition faster: when you invest in reducing emissions, revenues are reinvested in decarbonisation technologies.
How the system works in practice for your company:
You inform us of the amount of CO2e savings you want to achieve.
Together we decide if the reductions can be made directly in your own transportation flow, or indirectly in the DFDS network.
We make, measure, verify, and store CO2e emissions reductions from our transportation network.
You receive an annual certificate specifying the number of tonnes of CO2e reduced in your supply chain.
You report the reductions to your Scope 3 emissions.
How can we help you?
The reductions made within our transportation network will be verified and stored in our CO2e reduction bank. Once a year, certificates will be issued to you according to our agreement, specifying the amount of emissions reduced.
The savings can be reported as reductions to your Scope 3, category 4 emissions: Upstream transportation and distribution, as per the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
The reductions will be retired from the bank once they are issued to a customer.
We reduce our Scope 1 CO2e emissions by making direct interventions in the value chain - using biofuel on vessels and introducing eTrucks within the DFDS transportation network. Since our emissions are part of your upstream emissions, they can be included in your Scope 3 emissions reporting.
The emission reductions are generated by replacing traditional fossil fuels with renewable energy or low-emission fuels. When we are sourcing, we use ISCC to fuel our vessels and own produced or certified (RECs) renewable electricity to power our e-trucks.
