Three years to a leading role

Philipp Päper started at DFDS after working in the hotel business in Hamburg, Germany. Less than five years ago, only a few people knew about DFDS in Germany, but that didn't stop Philipp, this was the challenge he’d been looking for and it turned out to be a success. After starting out as a Marketing Coordinator, he now leads the German Passenger Marketing and Sales activities with a team of 19 people in Hamburg.
Philipp has a strong background in PR and worked on a project management team in a successful hotel business, but he was eager to get out of his comfort zone and try something rather new. "I could not be happier with my decision to join DFDS. This gave me a great opportunity to take up a range of different tasks and responsibilities to help strengthen the market share in Germany," says Philipp.
"DFDS is a large company across 20 different countries, so it might seem like the hierarchy level is extremely high and everyone is doing their own routine tasks, but it is exactly the opposite. No matter where in the company you are, you can always challenge the way we do business. If you have valuable ideas and work hard towards implementing your solutions, there will always be a way to evolve inside the organization and take ownership," expresses Philipp.
The past four years have been an exciting ride for the passenger team in Germany. "From being vaguely known in the industry, we have grown immensely, promoting DFDS routes, and selling on board experiences or destinations," says Philipp.
DFDS is highly international company. "Even though we mostly operate in Europe, we are very different and that is what makes our work so exciting - we gain learnings and experiences from people and cultures across the company. So, if you are up for working in an exciting international environment, where your ideas will always be heard, and you like to challenge the status quo, then joining DFDS is definitely the way to go," states Philipp.

Trine has worked at sea for the last 13 years, sailing on seven different ships. “I love being on board and working hard for a couple of weeks. Afterwards I have 14 days off and go home, and have lots of time to enjoy being with friends and family,” she says.
