Taking responsibility for all we do. DFDS is responsible for many employees, their working conditions, safety and health at work. We help to safeguard the infrastructure and supply of goods. We are responsible for our passengers’ safety, for our customers’ freight, and for operating as responsibly as possible in relation to all our stakeholders and the environment.
Our business is to move and connect goods and people. In December 2016 we had been doing so for 150 years. Part of the secret of our company’s longevity is a deep-seated belief in taking good care of our customers and all other stakeholders, including the environment.
DFDS’ business model revolves around the operation of ferry routes carrying freight and passengers and providing transport and logistics solutions to a diverse range of manufacturers. A large part of the solutions are carried out using the ferry route network.
In relation to the reporting of activities that fit into the umbrella of CSR, the key goals are to limit the impact of activities on the environment, keep people and goods safe, secure jobs and good working conditions, support social initiatives and be a diverse company as regards nationality, gender, race and age. We also protect our company against fraud and seek to communicate and engage with our stakeholders in a trustworthy manner at all times.
In December 2015, DFDS joined the IMPA ACT, which is a responsible supply chain management programme. The programme has been developed by Danish Shipowners J. Lauritzen and DS Norden, the leading consultancy company GLOBAL CSR and International Marine Purchasing Association (IMPA). The IMPA ACT builds on the UN Guiding Principles and expectations are fully aligned with the newest and strongest development within the field of CR. In 2016.
The 2020 CSR report describes our CSR strategy and ambitions, as well as our continuous work to act responsibly in all areas.
We focus on the areas where there are special opportunities, and therefore special responsibilities, to make a difference for our employees, the environment, and the communities we are able to influence.
As of April 2015, DFDS joined the United Nations Global Compact. It includes a set of 10 universally accepted rules within the fields of human rights, labour, environment and anticorruption. With over 12,000 members in over 145 countries, it is the largest voluntary CSR initiative in the world.
To differentiate in GHG between passenger and freight on ro-pax vessels when submitting data to the EU, DFDS has elected to use the ‘Area’ method as specified in the ISO 16258 standard. This is one of several recommended ways of allocating this.
DFDS has a two-tier management structure with an independent Board of Directors.
Our policies for corporate governance, diversity and remuneration are continuously evaluated with due consideration to current legislation, practice and recommendations.
At DFDS we always put people first, and that starts with our own. Regular employee surveys reveal a high sense of loyalty to the company – a reflection of the importance we place on training and development.
