MORE COMPETITIVE CHANNEL SET-UP
DFDS strengthens the competitiveness on the Channel between two routes
The competitiveness of DFDS set-up on the Channel will be strengthened by a combination of a reshuffle of ships between the two routes, Dover-Dunkirk and Dover Calais, and the charter of a new ship, MOLIERE.
Upon delivery of MOLIERE, the chartered ship currently trading on Dover-Calais, DEAL SEAWAYS, will be redelivered to its owner. MOLIERE will be renamed DIEPPE SEAWAYS.
The Dover-Dunkirk route is currently serviced by three sister ships. On 4 November, MOLIERE will replace one of these ships, DOVER SEAWAYS, which will be transferred to Dover-Calais. Freight is the main customer segment on Dover-Dunkirk and MOLIERE will be focused on carrying freight.
On Dover-Calais, the offering to both passengers and the freight market will be improved by the transfer of DOVER SEAWAYS. The excellent onboard facilities of DOVER SEAWAYS will enhance the onboard experience for passengers, and an additional capacity of 15 trailers per sailing will improve availability of capacity to the freight market on peak departures. In addition, DOVER SEAWAYS will increase the reliability of the schedule for the benefit of both customer segments.
In 2011, a total of 21.3m passengers, 5.0m cars, and 3.3m freight units were transported between England and France on the Dover Strait.
