DFDS X #EmpowHer – Pamela Lee’s Route du Rhum Journey
Breaking barriers and inspiring the next generation
At DFDS, we’re proud to support women in maritime and thrilled to partner with Irish sailor Pamela Lee on her extraordinary journey. Over the next two years, Pamela’s path will take her across Europe, including key races around Jersey and France, showcasing the maritime connections that unite us.
Just as we connect passengers to new horizons, we’re honoured to help Pamela navigate hers, breaking barriers and inspiring the next generation of adventurers along the way.

Meet Pamela Lee
Pam’s journey is one of breaking boundaries and showcasing unwavering determination. From Greystones, Wicklow, she’s a world record holder for the fastest sail around Ireland and with rigorous training that includes offshore races across the UK, Ireland, and France, Pamela is pushing the limits of what’s possible in sailing.
In May this year, Pamela and her co-skipper, Jay Thompson, displayed extraordinary courage during the Normandy Channel Race. Responding to a Mayday call, they discovered a capsized rival boat and provided critical assistance until the French Navy helicopter arrived. This act of bravery is a testament to Pamela’s resilience and strength – qualities that define her as both a sailor and a role model.
But Pamela’s story goes beyond racing. She’s making waves in a traditionally male-dominated industry, proving that the sea has no gender and inspiring the next generation to follow in her wake.

About the #EmpowHer campaign
The #EmpowHer campaign is more than just a sponsorship – it’s a commitment to change. Through this initiative, DFDS proudly supports Pam as she takes on the challenges of competitive sailing, embodying the resilience and determination that define women in maritime.
At DFDS, we’re dedicated to promoting gender equality in this dynamic industry. The #EmpowHer campaign aims to inspire more women to pursue careers in maritime, break barriers, and make their mark on the open seas. Together with Pamela, we’re working towards a more inclusive future – one wave at a time.

Inspiring the next generation
The maritime industry is evolving, and DFDS is proud to be at the forefront of change. With a goal of achieving 20% female representation in maritime by 2030, we’ve already made significant progress – nearly doubling the percentage of women in deck and management roles to 9.8% since 2023.
Pam also works with our very own cadets and is a shining example of what’s possible. Her determination and achievements prove that no dream is too ambitious and no sea too vast. As a role model, Pam inspires young girls and women everywhere to break barriers and chart their own course.
