FERRY COMPANY DFDS SUPPORTS LOCAL YOUTH FOOTBALL TEAM
Date: 13 May 2019
To support the children, coaches and families of Hythe Town Youth Football Team, award-winning ferry company DFDS have donated tour football tops for the U11's, U12's and U14's teams and complimentary crossings from Dover to Calais to attend the tournament, the Hageland Cup in Belgium.
In its 31st year, The Hageland Cup is the biggest international youth football tournament. Youth Teams will travel to Belgium on 25th May where they will play 3 games in their group. If successful they will go on to play in the final on Sunday 26th May and the chance to win the Hageland Cup Trophy.
Hythe Town Youth Football Team is a run by a committee of elected volunteers with huge support from players parents, one of which is DFDS's own Director of Marine Standards Channel, Stephen Fairlie. Stephen's son, Daniel who is 11 year's old, has been with the club since the U7's team.
Stephen said: "I'm involved with the club by liaising with the Youth Team and Senior Club, Hythe Town FC, by arranging mascot days and special matches. My wife, Nicky, is also the club treasurer and has worked hard to get funding for full strips and training kits for the 300 children across all our 19 teams.
When I approached my employer DFDS with the opportunity to support this local club initiative they were more than happy to help. The kit, training and tour costs can all mount up and become quite costly, so fundraising and donations are so important to providing these exciting experiences for this group of children.".
