Volubilis, Morocco

If you have been wanting to visit Morocco for a long time, but you would like to go at a time when temperatures are not too high and you can avoid large crowds, you have come to the right place, because we're going to tell you what is the best time to travel to Morocco based on our experience and the many times we have been in this country.

The gateway to Africa is one of the most touristic and visited African countries, especially from Spain, given the proximity and the multiple possibilities of transport, which make it both comfortable and fast.

What time of the year is the best to travel to Morocco?

It is a country full of contrasts, with desert and mountainous landscapes, where it can be very cold in winter and very hot in summer. Therefore, in our opinion, the best time of the year to travel to Morocco is in autumn and spring, when you can enjoy the many treasures offered by this country with pleasant temperatures.

Although really any month could be a good time to make this trip, in our opinion, between March and May, and between September and October, are the best months of the year to travel to Morocco, as during these months you will not have to worry about the cold or the heat. The climate will be very similar to what you might find in the south of Spain.

Summer in Morocco is very hot, with temperatures that can easily exceed 40º, so it would not be the best time of the year if you want to go sightseeing. On the other hand, if you want a beach trip, for example, there will be no problem traveling in the middle of summer.

However, winter is also not the best time to travel to Morocco, since in addition to the fact that there are areas where temperatures can be very low, it is a very rainy country, especially in the north.

What is the climate like in Morocco?

Located in North Africa, Morocco is a country with a rich geographical diversity with up to four distinct climatic zones, making it the coldest of the countries considered as warm.

Bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, in the coastal area the winters are mild and temperate, while the summers are really hot. In addition, the wind blows constantly throughout the year, allowing you to enjoy a refreshing climate.

To the north, between the foothills of the Rif and the coast, the climate becomes Mediterranean, with high temperatures in the coastal areas.

The central area of Morocco is predominantly mountainous, characterized by a continental climate. Here, snowfalls are common in the heights of the Atlas Mountains, allowing you to enjoy dreamlike landscapes.

If we go down to the south of the country, the Sahara has a desert climate, characterized by a marked difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures.

The diversity of temperatures throughout Morocco is a factor to be taken into account when deciding the best time to visit the country. Each region offers unique climatic experiences, allowing travelers to choose the most appropriate time to enjoy their stay in this fascinating land of contrasts.

Tourism and crowds

Another factor to take into account when deciding the best time to travel to Morocco is tourism, especially if you want to enjoy a quiet trip without too many crowds. In high season, Morocco has millions of tourists from all over the world.

Also, in high season the prices of accommodations will be higher, so it is something you should also bear in mind.

These are the seasons in Morocco:

  • High season: November to March.

  • Mid season: April to October.

  • Low season: May to September.

If we take into account the weather, tourism and prices, in our opinion, April to October (mid-season) is the best time to travel to Morocco. Temperatures will be pleasant, there will not be as many people as from November to March, and prices will be cheaper.
