Christmas in Gothenburg - markets

EXPLORE THE CHRISTMAS MARKETS OF GOTHENBURG

Gothenburg will be decorated with all sorts of wonderful Christmas-themed displays and five million Christmas lights this winter. The Christmas fairs open and serve handmade sweets, toasted almonds and hot chocolate with their aromas filling the air. At the fair, you can buy unique Christmas decorations, wreaths, Christmas-themed candles, and festive treats. Finding gifts for loved ones will not be a problem as you have a lot of good options.

The city will be wrapped in beautiful lights and, with many places to visit, you will find Stockholm to be the perfect Christmas holiday to fill you with the joy of the season.

Christmas in Gothenburg - Liseberg

Christmas in Liseberg Park

Liseberg Park is one of Göteborg’s most beautiful Christmas venues and hosts Gothenburg’s most popular Christmas markets. Every year, the park is beautifully adorned in thousands of Christmas lights and decorations and hosts a number of exciting events. The highlights include the Christmas Workshop with Santa, carousel rides, ice skating rink where children can skate with rabbits, all complete with high-quality restaurants. Do have a wonder around the market stalls, which include a unique range of Christmas decorations, gifts, sweets, and drinks – you will be sure to find something special for a loved one (or yourself!) here.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without the Elves, and at Liseberg Park you can join the elves in their cottage to listen to Santa’s story time and try some tasty treats. You can even write your Christmas list to Santa! If you follow the forest path, you will find yourself in Santa’s workshop, where you can watch the elves pack Santa’s sacks with presents and give your Christmas list directly to Santa himself!

Tjolöholms Slott

If you are looking and willing to travel just outside of Gothenburg, then Tjolöholms Slott is the perfect place to go and will not disappoint. Although the first official Christmas market took place in 1987, Tjolöholm Castle has always celebrated Christmas in a grand way, with the Christmas tree being the main spectacle. Every day, the market holds a Fire Show and as you walk around you will see many of Tjolöholm’s characters from history.

Make sure to keep your eyes peeled, as you may see Santa and his helpers around -take your Christmas Wishlist with you and you might just be able to give it to Santa himself! Along with many Christmas food stalls and a café for a sit-down break, you are able to enjoy a Christmas Tea in the castle dining room and try Tjolöholm tea – a favourite amongst many and a perfect experience for any tea drinker!

Christmas market in Gothenburg

Haga Nygata

Another great Christmas Market area in Gothenburg, outside of Liseberg Park, is the Market in Haga – Gothenburg’s Old Town. Here you will be able to roam the stalls whilst taking in the excellent architecture of the old town and Christmas really makes it come to life as it is lit with pretty fairy lights.

There are plenty of stalls where you can try some Swedish delicacies - you will be able to tell when you are getting close – just follow your nose and the sweet aroma of hot chocolate and glögg! There are also many cafes if you prefer to take a break and also lots of shops to browse for gifts if you don’t find one in the market.
