GERMANY’S MOSELLE VALLEY CYCLING TOUR

This relaxing 8-day holiday takes you through the most stunning areas of Germany’s renowned Moselle Valley. Vineyards, castles and nature reserves are just a few of the places you’ll pass, ending your tour in the historic town of Koblenz. You’ll spend 7 nights in a range of lovely German hotels and guesthouses, and your luggage is transferred to each destination for you.

Day 1 & 2

Day 1 – Arrival into trier: Arrive in Trier and, depending on time, spend your day exploring Germany’s oldest city, dating back 2,000 years. Entry to the Imperial Baths is included with your Saddle Skedaddle package, or head to one of the many other Roman monuments. You’ll meet your local representative at your hotel where you’ll go over route notes and maps, as well as get fitted for your hire bike.

Day 2 - Trier to Trittenheim - 25 miles: Follow the River Cher to Château de Villandry with its exquisite landscaped gardens. From there head towards River Loire and passed Château de Langeais, another fairy-tale establishment. The Gothic and Renaissance tapestries inside, alongside the well-preserved furniture, make for a fantastic walk around. Cycle onward to Château d’Ussé, named Sleeping Beauty’s castle, before reaching Chinon where you’ll be spending the night

Day 3,4 and 5

Day 3 - Trittenheim to Zeltingen - 22 miles: You’ll leave Trittenheim for Zeltingen, but not before meandering to Piesport, one of the largest wine growing regions in the valley. Here you’ll find Roman cellars from the 3rd century. From there you’ll head to Neumagen-Dhron, Germany’s oldest wine village, and Bernkastel-Kues which has a charming market square before reaching Zeltingen.
Day 4 – Zeltingen to Zell - 22 miles: Cycle through Kröver Nacktarsch, admiring the vineyards on both sides of the river towards Traben-Trarbach. The architecture in this small town is spectacular, boasting art nouveau and Belle Epoque design, including the stunning Bridge Gate. Your route will take you through the wine region of ‘Zeller Schwarze Katz’, ending in Zell.
Day 5 – Zell to Treis-Karden - 31 miles: After exploring Zell, you’ll follow the Moselle River on your bike to Beilstein. Stop off in Cochem for the quaint centre and 11th century Reichsburg Castle. From Cochem to Treis-Karden you’ll encounter long stretches pass through a nature reserve.

Day 6,7 and 8

Day 6 – Treis-Karden to Koblenz - 25 miles: Following the Moselle Valley to Koblenz today, you can also take a 5km detour to Burg Eltz castle, just outside Treis-Karden. Your cycle back offers incredible views of the region. You’ll pass numerous wine villages before reaching Koblez. This ancient town is situated at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine Rivers and offers historical sites, shopping and fantastic wine.
Day 7 – Boat trip to St. Goar – cycle back to Koblenz - 25 miles: Enjoy a boat trip on the Rhine, up to St Goar. Make sure to visit Loreley for views of St Goarshausen, Castle Katz and St Goar.
Day 8 – Departure from Koblenz: It’s time to depart from Germany and head back home after an adventure through one of Europe’s most famous and most adored regions.
