Travel Documents

You have booked your trip and are ready to go. Which travel documents do you need and what are the consequences if you miss one of the travel documents? Read all information below.

Mandatory travel documents When you get on board you must have the following documents:

  • Printed booking confirmation (this is also the ticket for the bus transfer, if booked)
  • Valid passport / ID card
  • Valid visa (if applicable)

Exceptional documents In special cases, DFDS may require a health declaration. For more information about valid and required border documents, you can consult GOV.UK UK border Agency.

Valid travel documents If, for whatever reason, you are denied boarding, no refund is possible. This also applies if you are arrested when you board. It is your own responsibility to comply with all regulations regarding the necessary travel documents. This also applies to any vehicle documents and driving license (s) for driving abroad. You need to check these regulations and fully comply with them when taking your car abroad.

Children with a different surname Fathers and mothers with a surname different from their children or parents who travel with a child whose other parent isn't travelling sometimes have problems when checking-in at a port. If this is your case, we advise you to complete an application form which can be found at defensie.nl . This applies to the IJmuiden - Newcastle route and Dunkirk / Calais - Dover route .

Route Copenhagen-Oslo / Oslo-Copenhagen For this route, all passengers must provide date of birth and number of the passport or ID card in advance. After making your booking and at least 1 week before departure, you can provide this information, stating the booking number. This can be done via e-mail or by telephone 0255-54 66 66 (Mon / Fri from 09:00 to 17:00 hours).
