DFDS re-launches freight service between Calais and Sheerness

  • Freight service between Calais and Sheerness to reopen shortly
  • Service to be re-established following successful negotiations with Calais partners

Calais, 7 February 2022 - DFDS will reopen its freight service between Calais and Sheerness in the coming weeks.

The route, which opened in July 2021, was suspended on Saturday 15 January while the company worked with its partners in Calais to resolve operational issues affecting the service.

A solution has now been found and the route will resume as soon as the new tonnage required to operate the service has been identified. The company expects this to take a few weeks.

The route has a daily capacity of up to 165 unaccompanied freight units (trailers or containers without drivers).

Wayne Bullen, Freight Sales Manager at DFDS, said: "We are pleased to announce that our negotiations with our partners in Calais, who are essential to the operation of the route, have been successfully concluded. We are now working to identify the right tonnage to restart the service.

In the meantime, we are continuing to provide an alternative unaccompanied freight service from Calais to Dover until we are able to restart the Calais to Sheerness line, we expect to announce a restart date shortly. This route has proved popular with our customers since it opened last summer and we look forward to restoring the service."
