DFDS TO SPONSOR NEW ONE-OF-A-KIND 10K RUN IN TEMPLE EWELL, DOVER

Date: 29 July 2019

Award-winning ferry operator DFDS have agreed to sponsor the brand new Temple Ewell 10K Run which is to take place on the 13th October 2019.

This is a new race, to start by the race HQ in Kearsney Abbey and finish in nearby Russell Gardens, taking a picturesque figure of eight course on the Kent downlands around Temple Ewell and Ewell Minnis. It is a multi-terrain course, run on a combination of track, trail and quiet lanes. It is currently the only running event to take place in the Dover area.

The race is aiming for 300 entrants and in addition to medals for all finishers, there will be prizes for the first 3 male/female plus first in age group categories (V40, V50, V60 and V70 male; V35, V45, V55 and V65 female). There will also be free photographic downloads. The race will have a race license from UK Athletics and will have medical support from the Margate Ambulance Service and on course water stations. Invicta East Kent Athletic Club are supporting the event with logistical support and loan of equipment.

The minimum age for entrants is 15 and the cost is £14.00 for club affiliated runners and £16.00 for non-affiliated runners.

The event is being promoted to attract runners from the whole of East Kent and participants of all standards are welcome. DFDS as part of their sponsorship will be entering a team of runners.

Race Director, Glenn Mousley has said "The opportunity to put on a race in the Dover area was compelling and with careful planning we have managed to find an interesting route that does not cross any roads. We are sure it is going to be popular, so potential entrants should register in good time to ensure a place".

Angela Matthews, Head Teacher of Temple Ewell CofE Primary school said: "The funds raised by our amazing PTFA each year are fundamental in providing vital resources for all our pupils. All schools have been affected by budget cuts in recent years, but as a small school Temple Ewell feels this even more. Without the extra funds raised, our children would miss out on vital IT equipment, enrichment opportunities and playground equipment, as well as the many other resources the PTFA pay for. We are extremely grateful to our PTFA for all their hard work in organising and running such fantastic events as the 10K run and appreciate all support they receive from the wider community".

Naomi Harper, PR Manager at DFDS said "To be involved with this new race initiative is really exciting. The course really is one of a kind, with some beautiful scenery – and challenging hills along the way! And to be able to support a local school's fundraising activity is a natural partnership with DFDS's new company CSR strategy. We hope to be a partner for many years to come".
