Copenhagen - The World's Best CIty

Copenhagen - Named the world's best city to visit in 2019 by Lonely Planet

Every year, the popular travel guide, Lonely Planet, publishes a list of the world's 10 best cities to travel to. We at DFDS have known for several years that "it is wonderful to be a Norwegian in Denmark", so it came as no surprise that Copenhagen came in first place on this list in 2019.

The "Capital of Cool" has now become an abbreviation for Copenhagen. Although the name was invented by Lonely Planet, it is a perfect description of Denmark's beautiful and hip capital. All travel enthusiasts who want to explore the ultimate cool city should take a trip to Copenhagen- The Capital of Cool.

Travel on a mini cruise with almost 7 hours ashore and experience the wonderful capital of the Danes too!

The Capital of Cool

Copenhagen is many things at once - it is an ancient, majestic capital with a lot of history and long traditions, along with grand buildings and beautiful nature, combined with a melting pot of cultures, innovative designs, innovative ideas, sustainability, culinary experiences and the ultimate big city life.

It is said that the Danes are some of the happiest people in the world, and in addition, Copenhagen has repeatedly been voted the best city to live in. And this is not without reason. For Copenhageners it is about living simply and with a quiet approach to life, with a hint of urbanity.

No matter what time of year you visit Copenhagen, there is always plenty to see and do - and 2019 is the perfect year to experience all that the city has to offer!

Get around Copenhagen

It can be difficult to plan your stay in Copenhagen to the fullest, as there is a lot to see and do. However, we hope we can help you with the task.

In the old working class district, Vesterbro , you will find hip cafés, designer shops, as well as the iconic Carlsberg brewery with its beautiful architecture. Vesterbro also houses Copenhagen's own meat-packing district, which has now become a trend-site for new food markets, informal eateries and modern bars.

In the areas around Nørrebro , the old is combined with the new, known, dear Danish traditions with a number of international cultures. Here you can expect the unexpected. Nørrebro offers artistic and multicultural street art, beautiful lakes, cool bars, and the historic Assistens cemetery.

More Copenhagen

Many of the city's most popular attractions are in the city center such as Tivoli Gardens, Amalienborg Castle, the home of the Danish Queen, the old river port, Nyhavn, Strøget and much more.

Near the center you will find the Christianshavn district , which consists of old, narrow canals. Here you'll also find the free city of Christiania, near the contrasting Islands Brygge with modern buildings, Copenhagen harbor bath and much more.

Østerbro is the quiet and elegant part of the city. Here you will find one of Copenhagen's most beautiful parks, several embassies, The Little Mermaid. The district offers the most perfect setting for a great afternoon stroll.

Just off Østerbro, on the boardwalk you will find Nordhavn , where DFDS 'ships sail from and to. From the terminal you can easily visit the part of the city you want.
