In the first quarter of 2024, DFDS Germany took a big step towards decarbonisation by deploying 18 Volvo FH Electric trucks across the German network. The independent fleet operates in multiple areas and handles both containers and trailers with the same efficiency. Regardless of the transport needs that businesses may have, these e-trucks can provide sustainable logistics for various industries.
At the end of October, our e-truck fleet had collectively driven 1.5 million km transporting products effectively, while reducing emissions. This shift has resulted in an estimated 1,092 tonnes of CO₂e emission savings compared to diesel operations.
Hamburg: a hub for electric innovation
The Hamburg office has become the beating heart of our German electrification journey. With 18 e-trucks in operation, the team has shown how more sustainable logistics can be scaled without compromising reliability or flexibility.
“Deploying our electric fleet in Hamburg is more than a milestone, it’s proof that more sustainable logistics can be both practical and scalable. We’re proud to actively drive the transition in Germany towards greener freight.” - Ralf Kohlen, Managing Director DFDS Germany
Every kilometre Counts
This milestone is more than just numbers. It’s about measurable impact and transparent progress that drives real change. Every kilometre counts, and we’re committed to sharing the journey openly while scaling up to make more sustainable logistics the new standard.
"Driving the Volvo FH Electric trucks feels different and with the knowledge that every kilometre helps cut emissions. It’s motivating to know our daily work contributes to a cleaner future." - Jeroen van Wensen - Decarbonisation Manager
Let’s talk cooperation
A big shout-out to those interested in exploring decarbonisation opportunities - whether you’re a partner, customer, or innovator in the logistics space, we’d love to connect and discuss how we can accelerate the transition together.
