Geminor townhall: turning waste into opportunity, together

Geminor name

When Geminor visited DFDS HQ in Copenhagen this November, the room buzzed with energy. The townhall wasn’t just a meeting, it was a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, and where we’re heading next.

The photos from the day say it all, people connecting, ideas flowing, and a shared sense of purpose. Behind those snapshots is a story of growth, trust, and a partnership that’s helping reshape how Europe handles waste.

Built on performance, grown through dialogue

Geminor’s journey has been nothing short of impressive. From an ambition to move 1 million tonnes of waste per year in 2004 to more than 2.5 million tonnes in 2024, their growth has been rapid, and DFDS has been right there with them.

It started with a single shipment from Norway to Denmark in 2012. Today, DFDS moves over 4,000 trailers of household waste (RDF) annually across Denmark, Sweden, and the UK, plus more than 1,400 mafis to Norway. As Geminor’s needs evolved, so did our services, adding logistics support, deploying electric trucks for last-mile deliveries in Sweden, and expanding multimodal capabilities.

Smart data, real impact

Sustainability isn’t just a goal, it’s built into the way Geminor operates. Their software, Gemisoft, tracks carbon data for every shipment, helping meet strict EU regulations and giving customers the transparency they expect.

By integrating with DFDS’ emissions reporting tools, Geminor can offer even more accurate insights. And with electric trucks and charging infrastructure now part of the mix, we’re helping them hit environmental targets while keeping operations smooth.

Safety that moves with confidence

Waste logistics comes with real risks. Fire hazards, contamination, and environmental exposure are part of the job, and they’re managed with care. DFDS uses specialized equipment, trained handlers, and strict safety protocols to make sure every shipment is secure.

Emergency plans at ports and fire prevention checks aren’t just boxes to tick, they’re part of the trust our customers place in us.

Solving challenges, growing together

The townhall wrapped with a message that stuck with everyone.

“Together we are solving challenges, and that is how we are going to grow and move forward”. - James Crouch, Geminor’s UK Operations Manager

That’s the spirit of this partnership. It’s not just about moving waste, it’s about moving forward, together.
