Since launching our first electric truck in 2022, DFDS’ fleet of electric trucks has grown to more than 146 vehicles operating across eight countries: Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and Finland.
Our electric trucks are used in a variety of retail and manufacturing supply chains and reduce CO₂e while delivering the reliability, flexibility, and service our customers expect.
Below is an overview of the types of loads suitable for transport by electric trucks (specific weights, lengths, etc. may vary according to local laws and regulations):
Containers
Electric trucks are well suited for container transport in short- and medium-haul port operations. With a range of up to 300 km on a single charge, DFDS' electric trucks transport containers from ports to warehouses using side loaders, chassis, or 34-metre road trains where permitted, carrying up to 32 tonnes in a single journey.
Finished vehicles
From car plants to dealerships, DFDS’ electric trucks can transport up to nine vehicles at a time. Each shipment is handled by trained drivers and follows strict quality protocols, ensuring electric trucks are as reliable as diesel transport.
High and heavy
Heavy and oversized loads are no issue for electric trucks. DFDS' electric trucks can transport buses, trucks and heavy machinery with a range of around 300 km. These trucks are purpose-built for complex operations where strength, safety and sustainability must come together.
Box and curtain side trailers
Box and curtain side trailers are suitable for full truckload (FTL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments. Box trailers provide secure protection for high-value goods and are well suited to palletised freight. Curtain side trailers, on the other hand, enable efficient side loading and unloading, supporting cross-docking operations and multi-stop deliveries.
Road trains
For high-volume transport, DFDS uses 34-metre long combination vehicles. These extended vehicle combinations enable efficient transport of up to 32 tonnes of cargo. We also manage all the permits and route planning to save our customers the hassle of paperwork.
Customised solutions
DFDS' electric trucks can be equipped with built-in cranes, heavy-duty trailers or weather-protected boxes depending on the requirements of the shipment. With a load capacity of up to 26 tonnes, our customised trailers can transport oversized loads or sensitive cargo, and even operate effectively in narrow urban environments.
Sequence deliveries
Electric trucks are used in advanced manufacturing supply chains with precise timing requirements. Carrying up to 25 tonnes, they deliver components in the exact order required by the customer’s production line – ensuring both efficient operations and low emissions.
Decarbonising supply chains
- 80% of DFDS' electric trucks operations are zero-emission well-to-wheel (2025)
- Between 10.29–349.45 tonnes CO₂e savings per truck per year (2025)
- Certified CO₂e reductions for our customers
