An exciting race to Jersey
Recently, Pam took on our high-speed ferry, the Tarifa Jet. Starting from St. Malo in her Class 40 sailboat, EmpowHer, she raced towards Jersey. Although the Tarifa Jet ultimately arrived first, the real winner was, of course, the energy and camaraderie that accompanied the event.
"It was a close call," laughed Pamela. "We entered Jersey Bay just a little bit earlier, but they followed quickly behind – at 15 to 20 knots, which is actually above our limit. Luckily, we were able to 'ride' on their wake for a bit. Fantastic to experience!"
The race kicked off a weekend full of activities in Jersey, where Pam shared her story, met locals, and spoke with young sailors.

Inspiring the next generation
One of the highlights was her session with the local Sea Cadets. There, Pamela gave young sailors practical tips and a healthy dose of motivation.
"It's not just about racing," she explained. "I want to show what's possible and encourage others to forge their own path – whether in sailing or elsewhere."
At DFDS, we fully identify with Pam's mission. We, too, are committed to increasing diversity in the maritime world. Our goal: 20% female representation in leadership roles on deck and in engine rooms by 2030.
What else is on the agenda?
Pam's journey is far from over. In the coming years, she will compete in leading international races, such as the Class40 Championships and the Transat Café L'Or. All in preparation for the ultimate challenge: the Route du Rhum 2026.
And every race brings her one step closer. Not only in her training, but also in her mission to increase diversity and visibility in sailing.
