The long-awaited kiss of the lovers, finally united after 90 minutes, is accompanied by the turquoise blue sea glistening in the background and the green coasts shining in the sunshine - this is probably how almost every Rosamunde Pilcher film ends.

Let's be honest, it's not so much the actors or the intricate storylines about heartbreak or family drama that make Rosamunde Pilcher films so popular, but above all the breathtaking backdrops. We reveal more about the secret stars of the popular romance films: discover the most beautiful film locations of the well-known TV romances with us.

Fascination Rosamunde Pilcher

Born in 1924 in the small village of Lelant in Cornwall, Rosamunde Pilcher also grew up in Cornwall. Later she moved to Scotland. She is one of the most successful contemporary authors, with over 60 million books sold worldwide. Many of her novels are set in Cornwall and describe the landscape there in a very vivid and graceful way. Since 1990, more than 100 of her novels and short stories have been adapted for German television. On average, the broadcasts attract 7 million viewers, making the Rosamunde Pilcher films some of ZDF’s most successful productions. In Great Britain, however, she is much less well known. Since 2012, Rosamunde Pilcher has stopped writing.

Famous Filming Locations of the Rosamunde Pilcher Films

The filming for Rosamunde Pilcher adaptations has already taken place in many locations throughout Cornwall. Here are what are probably the most famous ones:

Land’s End

This locality and the headland of the same name were the filming location for “Stormy Encounters”. The tip of the headland is the westernmost point of Great Britain and absolutely worth seeing - not just for Pilcher fans.

Bodmin

This small, picturesque town lies in the interior of Cornwall. The forests around Bodmin feel like something out of a fairytale film. A few kilometers north of Bodmin is the estate Pencarrow House, which served as a filming location for several Rosamunde Pilcher films, such as “Cliffs of Love,” “A Question of Honor,” and “Wind Over the Sea.” Parts of “The Woman on the Cliff” were filmed in the town of Bodmin itself.

This coastal town on the north coast of Cornwall is absolutely stunning thanks to its beaches and impressive cliffs. Fittingly, scenes from the production “Cliffs of Love” were filmed here. Another popular Rosamunde Pilcher filming location here is the Victorian Headland Hotel on Fistral Beach in Newquay.

Pilcher Tourism Boosts the Local Economy

In the scenically beautiful but economically weaker Cornwall, where there is a wide gap between rich and poor, the Rosamunde Pilcher films help promote tourism. The film productions themselves also create additional jobs, as extras and craftsmen are needed, for example. One third of all tourists each year come from Germany alone.
