Experience authentic Swedish fika

Swedish fika

Relax as Swedes

Fika is a time-honored tradition practiced by almost every Swede, which could also be called a coffee break. But there is much more to it - a time spent away from worries and hanging out with friends, colleagues or family. Fika can happen anywhere you are - at home, in a cafe, in the office, in a car or at a gas station on the go. Some offices in Sweden pride themselves on mandatory fika breaks. Therefore, fika could be called a form of communication that does not go without a few things - Swedish sweets and a cup of coffee.

What to choose

The combination of sweet pastries and coffee is popular all over the world. However, few countries in the world like coffee as Swedes. The country ranks first in terms of coffee consumption worldwide, with one Swede consuming about 8.5 kg of coffee per year. But for a real Swedish fika afternoon, coffee alone is not enough, we suggest a few traditional pastries in this country:

  • Cinnamon bun: cinnamon bun is the most popular delicacy among the locals;
  • Toscabulle: a bun that looks like cinnamon bun but is flavored with almonds and cardamom;
  • Chokladbollar: small, mild-tasting chocolate balls covered with coconut chips;
  • Semla: Bun with marzipan and whipped cream;
  • Ballerina kex: biscuit with chocolate filling.
