From setting world records to becoming the first Irish sailor to skipper major transatlantic races, Pamela is now preparing for her ultimate challenge: the Route du Rhum 2026.
But her journey isn’t just about one big race – it’s about the moments in between, the connections she’s building, and the inspiration she’s sharing along the way.

A thrilling race to Jersey
Pam recently took on an exhilarating challenge, pitting her Class40 sailboat, EmpowHer, against our high-speed ferry, Tarifa Jet, in a race from St. Malo to Jersey. While our ferry ultimately crossed the finish line first, the real victory was the excitement and community spirit the event brought to life.
“It was a close one,” Pamela said with a smile. “We managed to get into the bay of Jersey just ahead of them, but they were coming in fast – at 15 to 20 knots which is a little above our limit with this wind speed, but we got to surf their wake a little on the way in which was nice."
The race was just the start of a weekend packed with events in Jersey, where Pamela met with locals, shared her story, and spoke with a new wave of young sailors.

Inspiring the next generation
One of the highlights of the weekend was Pamela’s session with the local Sea Cadets. She offered young sailors hands-on advice and shared her experiences of navigating rough seas and chasing big dreams.
“It’s not just about racing,” Pam explained. “It’s about showing what’s possible and encouraging others to follow their own paths – whether that’s in sailing or something else entirely.”
At DFDS, we share Pam’s passion for inspiring the next generation. Her journey aligns with our commitment to increasing gender diversity in the maritime industry, with a goal of 20% female representation in deck and engine management roles by 2030.

What’s next for Pam?
Pam’s journey is far from over. Over the next two years, she’ll compete in elite international races, including the Class40 Championships and the Transat Café L’Or, all leading up to the Route du Rhum in 2026.
Each race is a stepping stone, not just for Pamela’s training but also for championing diversity and representation in sailing.
