Entering England from Germany by ferry

DFDS offers you different ferry routes to travel comfortably between Germany and England. From Calais and Dunkirk to Dover are the best options for travelling quickly by ferry to the south of England. If you want to travel north to Scotland and the Highlands, the Amsterdam-Newcastle route is ideal!

Travelling to the ports of departure:

  • From Germany to Calais/Dunkirk: You can reach the French ports of departure by car in around 6-9 hours travelling time, depending on your location in Germany.
  • To Amsterdam: The journey time from Germany is approx. 3-5 hours, depending on the starting point.

Journey times and duration:

  • Calais/Dunkirk-Dover: DFDS ferries from France leave for Dover more than 20 times a day, with departure times between 3am and 11pm. Crossings take approx. 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Amsterdam-Newcastle: Daily departures with DFDS from around 5 pm. A relaxed night crossing takes you to the north of England. Crossings take approx. 17 hours.

Please note: When booking online, only one vehicle category is possible per booking. For our France-Dover routes, the following also applies: only available for passengers with a vehicle.

We offer special pet-friendly cabins on the overnight Amsterdam-Newcastle long-haul voyage, where you and your faithful companion can spend the entire crossing together. Alternatively, dog transport boxes/kennels and a dog run deck are available for breaks in the fresh sea air. Please note: On our short journeys between France and Dover (duration: just under 2 hours), your pet must remain in the car (exception: registered assistance dogs).
