Challenge

Custom clearance complexity

Like many companies, Brexit presented dnata with new challenges. Until then, the company had no issues dealing with customs when transporting their frozen meals and retail products. As the deadline for Brexit approached, dnata decided to look for a reliable partner capable of handling all the procedures to ensure the goods they transported complied with the new regulations and cleared customs promptly.

Close, cooperative partnership

dnata also needed to ensure their hauliers and suppliers had an efficient process in place to maintain speed, compliance, and capacity. For instance, meals prepared in the UK containing POAO (products of animal origin) require specialist knowledge of two key areas under the Northern Ireland Protocol – customs clearance and DAERA (Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs). This was crucial for meeting regulatory requirements and tight airline schedules.

Solution

Fast, seamless compliance

We were extremely pleased when dnata chose to partner with us on this unique project as it was one where we could involve a wide range of talents from the DFDS team.

Post-Brexit challenges are complex, which is why we worked closely with dnata and their suppliers to develop a full customs clearance solution that simplified the complexity and enabled them to navigate post-Brexit customs challenges smoothly.

Applied across multiple sites, the solution enables all goods to be cleared quickly and seamlessly in compliance with UK tax authority HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) and other government agency regulations.

The solution offers unlimited support and ensures customs complexities are dealt with correctly and transparently. dnata has access to DFDS Direct, which gives them quick and easy access to all customs documentation and ensures they stay up to date on the entire customs operation.

Results

Today, this full customs clearance solution has streamlined the company’s customs processes and helped ensure the business runs efficiently post Brexit. Now, dnata has access to a single point of contact with expert knowledge and experience.

We are always on hand to handle new issues and respond quickly. Once put into operation, the new solution has made the customs process simpler and faster. It’s a transparent process that eliminates the risk of delays, ensures dnata is always compliant and allows the company to move onwards in a post-Brexit landscape.
